As part of the development of Moscow’s transport infrastructure, biometric fare payment is becoming increasingly available and widespread in public transport. The contactless way of fare payment by biometrics operates almost 2,5 years in the capital, reported in the press-service of Department of Transport.
At present more than 1000 turnstiles, including at all metro stations and the Moscow Central Circle (MCC), in Aeroexpress and on regular river transport accept payment by biometrics. In the future it is planned to launch the service on the Moscow Central Diameters (MCD) and surface urban transport.
Biometric payment in urban transport is one of the key stages in the development of our ticketing system. We placed a special emphasis on security when launching the new technology, so the bank level of protection has been ensured, and all data is encrypted. The testing of the service will begin on the MCC by the end of March, and we plan to launch it in surface transport, – said Maksim Liksutov the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport.
The Moscow ticketing system has been recognised internationally: in 2020 and 2021, it won the prestigious Transport Ticketing Award as the best ticketing programme. In October 2021, the Moscow Metro was the first in the world to introduce a payment service with facial recognition at all metro stations. Today, it is the most convenient, technological and safe way to pay for a fare.
To use biometric payment, it is enough to connect to the service in the Metro Moscow app, which is available on Google Play and App Store.
