BYD has been awarded a substantial eBus order from public transport operator, Transdev AB, in Sweden.
The order for 52 BYD eBuses is the largest order that Transdev has placed with BYD for electric buses since 2015 when it first introduced the BYD brand to its fleet.
Transdev is one of the largest public transport operators in Sweden with a commitment to investing in new mobility solutions, especially in the sphere of electric buses. This new order comprises 8 units of 12-metre low-floor BYD eBuses and 44 units of 15-metre low-entry BYD eBuses.
The BYD eBuses on order will be delivered to the province of Gästrikland on the east coast of Sweden. They will be commissioned for public transport services operated by Transdev in this famous scenic region that places great importance on environmental protection and sustainability.
The 15-metre BYD eBuses, representing the majority of the latest order from Transdev, benefit from upgraded BYD Iron-Phosphate Battery technology for enhanced safety, range and reliability. The 15-metre BYD eBuses have a range of 450 km (SORT II) making them a practical option for many public transport operators. Fundamental to the overall performance is BYD’s unique 6-in-1 controller integrating the entire ecosystem of the bus for improved reliability and increased operational efficiency. Intelligent systems are pivotal to optimised range, safety and comfort, and include BYD’s highly efficient Battery Thermal Management System, enabling the buses to reliably operate in extreme climatic conditions. Such innovative technology combines with aesthetic appeal, reflected in the sleek modern exterior body design, the appearance of which is further enriched by the integrated composite roof which is lighter in weight and offers even greater levels of structural safety. Durable new materials are a key feature of the interior creating a stylish finish while also providing a comfortable passenger experience.
There are now more than 700 BYD eBuses, in service or on order, within the Nordic Region, and over 3000 in Europe. BYD eBuses have covered more than 59 million km in the Nordics, reducing in excess of 63,000 tonnes of CO2. In Europe, BYD eBuses have collectively travelled over 197 million km, reducing CO2 by more than 211,000 tonnes.
Fredrik Beckius, General Manager Transdev in Gästrikland/Hälsingland, said, “We are very pleased to be able to help drive the transition to a zero-emission fleet in the region. BYD is one of the market leaders in electric buses and their products are well-matched to the requirements set in the procurement process. The fact that as many as 52 out of 66 regional buses will be powered by electricity will have a significant impact on both emissions and noise levels. We know from experience that this will have a positive effect on passengers, drivers and those who live and move in the community. For Transdev, sustainability is an important issue, and we are confident that BYD as a supplier meets our requirements throughout its production chain.”
Edison Yin, BYD Regional Manager Nordics, commented: “BYD is very pleased to receive this substantial eBus order from Transdev, with whom we have a long-established business relationship that continues to evolve. We are proud to support Transdev as they expand their green fleet of zero-emission electric buses in Sweden, a country that, like BYD, is prioritising sustainability and eco-friendly solutions. BYD eBuses are playing a pivotal role in empowering the electrification of public transport across the Nordics, and we expect our latest pioneering technology to further accelerate this transition as we continue to innovate and inspire eMobility on a global scale.”
