The company is thus doubling the number of vending machines from currently over 6,000 to around 12,000 Packstations.
According to Tobias Meyer, Member of the Board of Management of Deutsche Post DHL Group, more and more customers are using the Packstation and existing customers are using it more and more frequently.
Many new customers discovered the advantages of Packstation for themselves, particularly during the Corona crisis as they can send and receive their parcels here at any time without contact. The company’s partners from the retail trade, local public transport and real estate sectors show a great deal of interest in setting up new Packstations at their locations.
By cooperating with local transport companies Meyer sees the chance to create an environmentally friendly and traffic-reducing system of parcel delivery.
With immediate effect, Deutsche Post DHL is also setting up the purely app-controlled version of the Packstation at initially around 200 locations. This new type of vending machine does not require a display, as the customer operates it solely via smartphone.
In future, DHL customers will be able to use both types of machine – the classic Packstation with screen and scanner and the app-controlled version.
Most of these machines are equipped with solar cells on the roof, so that the new type of packing station is completely self-sufficient in renewable energy.
