The Evergreen Marine Corporations operated container vessel EVER GIVEN ran aground in the Suez Canal around 8 am local time on March 23. The incident occurred as the container ship proceeded northbound through the waterway from the Red Sea.
As a result the Suez Canal passage is currently blocked for any marine traffic in both directions.
The refloating attempts are being carried out by the owners of the Vessel in coordination with Suez Canal Authorities. The incident continues to create congestion on the waterway, stopping vessels from passing and causing delays. We don´t have any clear indication when the vessel will be refloated again.
Currently, the following Hapag-Lloyd vessels are affected:
- “Tsingtao Express” waiting in outer anchorage in Port Said (IOS Service)
- “Salahuddin” waiting in outer anchorage in Port Said (MD2 Service)
- “Athenian” waiting in outer anchorage in Port Said (TPI Service)
- “Al Rawdah” scheduled to reach Suez Canal tonight (IOS Service)
- “New York Express” locked in at Great Bitter Lake (MD1)
Hapag-Lloyd constantly monitors the situation and closely follows the implications on its services. We are presently looking into possible vessel diversions around Cape of Good Hope.
